What is IPTV and what do you actually receive when you buy it?

IPTV stands for Internet Protocol Television. Instead of receiving TV signals through a satellite dish or a cable connection, an IPTV service delivers live channels and on-demand content as a data stream over your existing broadband or mobile data connection.

When you buy an IPTV subscription from StreamLux, you receive an email containing three things:

  • A username and password (your Xtream Codes credentials)
  • A server URL (the address the app connects to)
  • An optional M3U playlist URL (alternative format for compatible players)

You enter these into an IPTV app — TiviMate, IPTV Smarters Pro, Smart IPTV, and others are covered in detail below. The app connects to the StreamLux infrastructure and gives you access to the full channel library: live TV, electronic programme guide (EPG), catch-up TV where available, and the movies and series on-demand library.

There is no physical box to wait for. No technician to book. No satellite dish to align. The only hardware requirement is a device you likely already own and an internet connection fast enough for streaming.

IPTV vs satellite vs cable vs streaming services

IPTV Satellite / Cable Netflix / Disney+
Live TV ✓ 10,000+ channels ✓ Limited selection ✗ Not available
Live sports ✓ All major leagues ✓ With sports package ✗ Very limited
On-demand movies ✓ Large library Varies ✓ Premium originals
International channels ✓ Europe, MENA, LATAM… ✗ Very limited ✗ No
Device flexibility ✓ Any device ✗ Specific hardware ✓ Most devices
Contract None — one-off purchase 12–24 month contract Monthly rolling

Most StreamLux subscribers use IPTV alongside a streaming service like Netflix — IPTV for live TV and sports, Netflix for exclusive series. The combined cost is still typically lower than a full cable or satellite package.

How to choose an IPTV subscription — 7 things that actually matter

The IPTV market has a serious signal-to-noise problem. Many providers make similar claims about channel counts and quality. Here are the seven factors that separate reliable services from the ones you'll regret buying.

1. Secure payment processing

The single clearest trust signal is whether checkout is handled by a recognised payment processor. Stripe and PayPal provide PCI-DSS Level 1 protection — your card number is never transmitted to or stored by the IPTV provider. If a provider asks for Bitcoin, wire transfer, or a PayPal personal transfer as the only payment option, treat that as a serious red flag. StreamLux uses Stripe exclusively. Your card details never reach us.

2. Activation method

Reputable services activate automatically and send credentials by email. You should not have to wait for a human to approve your purchase during normal business hours. Delays over 30 minutes are a sign of manual or unreliable provisioning systems. StreamLux activates within 5 minutes in most cases, always within 30.

3. No long-term contract

Avoid any IPTV provider that requires a 12-month or 24-month commitment with auto-renewal. The best providers let you buy a single month to test, then extend. StreamLux subscriptions are one-off purchases: no recurring billing, no auto-renewal. When your plan ends, access stops — you decide whether to renew.

4. Transparent pricing with no hidden fees

Some providers advertise a low monthly price but add setup fees, device fees, or charge extra for HD or 4K quality. The price at checkout should match the price on the pricing page exactly. StreamLux pricing is fully transparent — the price you see includes everything, and VAT where applicable is displayed before checkout.

5. Real 24/7 support

Test support before buying by sending a pre-sale question. Count the response time. A provider whose first response takes 48 hours will also take 48 hours when you have a problem at 11pm on a Saturday. StreamLux responds on WhatsApp typically within 5 minutes during the day and within 1 hour overnight, across English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Dutch and Arabic.

6. Device and app compatibility

Check whether the provider supports the specific device and app you want to use. "Works on Smart TV" is not enough — Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, and Android TV require completely different apps and setup processes. Full device compatibility is covered at streamlux.online/devices.html.

7. Quality and stability — ask about anti-freeze

Every provider claims "HD and 4K" but stream stability matters more than peak quality. Ask whether the service uses anti-freeze / buffer correction technology. On StreamLux, anti-freeze is built into the stream encoding so brief network hiccups don't cause visible freezing.

StreamLux IPTV plans — prices, what's included, and which to buy

StreamLux offers four plans. Every plan includes the complete channel library, the full movies and series library, and the same quality tiers (HD, FHD, 4K where available). The only differences are duration, price, and the number of simultaneous streams.

What's included — channels, sports, international content and VOD

Channel count is the most over-claimed metric in IPTV. A provider claiming "25,000 channels" often means 10,000 unique channels plus duplicates in different quality tiers. Here's what StreamLux actually includes:

Live TV — 10,000+ channels across all categories

  • Entertainment: primetime and general entertainment channels from the UK, France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Italy and beyond
  • Sports: Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, Champions League, Europa League, Formula 1, MotoGP, NBA, NFL, UFC, boxing, tennis Grand Slams, cricket and more
  • News: BBC News, CNN, Sky News, France 24, Al Jazeera, DW, Euronews, RTL and regional news channels
  • Children's: Cartoon Network, Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, CBBC and regional equivalents
  • Documentary: National Geographic, Discovery, History Channel, Animal Planet
  • International: Arabic channels (MBC, Dubai TV, Rotana), Portuguese channels (RTP, SIC, TVI), Dutch channels (NPO, RTL NL), and channels in French, Spanish, German and more

VOD — movies and series on demand

The on-demand library includes thousands of films and TV series accessible at any time, organised with search and categories inside your IPTV app. Content updates regularly. Full details of the channel list are at streamlux.online/channels.html.

EPG — Electronic Programme Guide

The Electronic Programme Guide shows what's on each channel now and up to 7 days ahead, including show descriptions and timestamps. EPG works inside all major IPTV apps (TiviMate, IPTV Smarters Pro, Smart IPTV). It's the feature that makes IPTV feel like proper TV rather than a stream list.

Compatible devices and the best IPTV app for each one

The right app makes a significant difference to the experience. Here's what works best on each device type. Full setup walkthroughs for every device are in our IPTV Setup Guide.

Amazon Fire TV Stick / Fire TV Cube

The Fire TV Stick is the most popular IPTV device. Best apps: TiviMate (premium, best EPG experience) and IPTV Smarters Pro (free version available, excellent for beginners). Both are available on the Amazon Appstore. The Fire TV Stick 4K Max is the best hardware choice at this price point — 4K HDR, fast processor, Wi-Fi 6.

Samsung Smart TV (Tizen OS)

Best app: Smart IPTV, available from the Samsung TV App Store. Setup takes about 3 minutes. The app has a one-time licence fee of approximately €5.49 on the TV. Alternatively, cast from your phone using IPTV Smarters Pro. Note: Samsung TVs from 2018 onwards support Smart IPTV; older models may require an HDMI workaround.

LG Smart TV (webOS)

Best app: Smart IPTV (LG Content Store). Also supports OTT Navigator for a more advanced interface. Setup is identical to the Samsung version — enter your Xtream Codes credentials, the guide activates automatically.

Android TV / Google TV (Sony, Hisense, Chromecast with Google TV, NVIDIA Shield)

Best apps: TiviMate (top choice), IPTV Smarters Pro, or OTT Navigator. All are on the Google Play Store. Android TV gives you the widest app selection of any Smart TV platform.

Apple TV (4th gen and Apple TV 4K)

Best app: iPlayTV (App Store, small one-time fee). Also works with GSE Smart IPTV. Setup requires entering your M3U or Xtream Codes credentials in the app settings.

iPhone and iPad

Best apps: iPlayTV and GSE Smart IPTV (both on the App Store). Works on iOS 13 and later. You can also AirPlay from your iPhone to Apple TV.

Android phones and tablets

Best apps: IPTV Smarters Pro (Google Play, free), GSE Smart IPTV (Google Play). Most feature-complete option on Android is TiviMate if you're using a tablet as a secondary screen.

Windows PC

Best apps: IPTV Smarters Pro (Windows version), VLC Media Player (open source, free — open the M3U URL directly), or any browser-based IPTV player. VLC is the simplest option for occasional use.

macOS

Best apps: IPTV Smarters Pro (Mac App Store), Infuse, or VLC. Apple Silicon Macs can also run iOS apps including iPlayTV natively.

MAG set-top boxes

MAG boxes (422, 424, 520, 522) use the built-in Stalker Portal or MAG browser. Enter your portal URL in the device's portal settings. Note: MAG boxes require a specific portal URL rather than Xtream Codes — contact support@streamlux.online when ordering to ensure you receive the correct format.

How to buy an IPTV subscription — the exact process, step by step

This is what happens between clicking "Order Now" and watching your first channel. No surprises, no steps left out.

  1. Choose a plan at streamlux.online/pricing.html

Compare plans side-by-side. If you're new to IPTV, the 1-month plan at €12.99 is the sensible test. If you're already confident, the 12-month plan at €59.99 (€5.00/month) gives the best economics. All plans include the same channel library and quality tiers — the only difference is duration and simultaneous stream count.

  2. Enter your name and email address

These are the only personal details required. Your email is where your activation credentials will be sent — use an address you check regularly. No account creation is needed, no password to set up.

  3. Complete payment via Stripe

Stripe handles the payment page. You'll see the Stripe domain in the browser bar (pay.streamlux.online or checkout.stripe.com). Accepted methods: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay, Google Pay. Stripe does not store your card on our systems — PCI-DSS Level 1 compliance means full encryption of all card data.

  4. Receive your Xtream Codes credentials by email

Within 5 minutes (usually less) of Stripe confirming payment, your credentials arrive by email. You'll receive: a username, a password, and a server URL. Keep this email — these are your credentials for the full subscription period.

  5. Install your IPTV app

Download the appropriate app for your device (see the section above). On Fire Stick: TiviMate or IPTV Smarters Pro. On Samsung/LG: Smart IPTV. On Android TV: TiviMate. On Apple TV/iPhone: iPlayTV. On PC/Mac: IPTV Smarters Pro or VLC.

  6. Enter your credentials and start watching

In the app, select "Xtream Codes" as the login method (almost every major IPTV app uses this format). Enter your username, password and server URL exactly as they appear in the email. The app will load your channels, EPG and VOD library — total time from credentials to first channel is typically 60–90 seconds.

If you run into any issue at any step, contact support@streamlux.online or use the WhatsApp button — our team walks you through setup in real time.

Internet speed requirements — what you actually need and how to check

Buffering is the number-one complaint about IPTV — and it's almost always a connection issue, not a provider issue. Understanding what speed you need eliminates 90% of problems before they start.

Minimum speeds by quality tier

QualityMinimum speedRecommendedConnection type
SD (480p)3 Mbps5 MbpsAny
HD (720p)5 Mbps10 MbpsAny
FHD (1080p)10 Mbps15 MbpsWired or strong Wi-Fi
4K UHD25 Mbps40 MbpsWired Ethernet preferred

The stability problem most guides don't mention

Average speed is less important than consistent speed. A connection that averages 50 Mbps but drops to 2 Mbps every 10 minutes will buffer constantly on a 4K stream. A 15 Mbps connection that never drops below 12 Mbps will deliver perfect FHD. Run a speed test at speedtest.net during the time of day you normally watch — evening congestion on shared broadband is the most common culprit.

Wi-Fi vs Ethernet for IPTV

For SD and HD channels, a good Wi-Fi 5 or Wi-Fi 6 connection is fine. For 4K, an Ethernet cable from your router to your streaming device eliminates nearly all buffering caused by wireless interference. If running a cable isn't practical, a Powerline adapter (which sends internet over your home's electrical wiring) is a reliable middle option, costing around €30–€50 at Amazon.

Common problems when you first buy IPTV — and how to fix them

These are the five issues that come up most often in our support queue, and the fix for each one. Detailed troubleshooting is in our IPTV Troubleshooting guide.

Problem: credentials don't arrive by email

Check your spam folder first — email providers occasionally misclassify subscription confirmation emails. If nothing is there after 30 minutes, contact support@streamlux.online with your order confirmation number (in your Stripe receipt) and we'll resend manually within minutes.

Problem: credentials are rejected by the app ("invalid login")

Copy and paste the credentials directly from the email — don't type them manually. Xtream Codes passwords are case-sensitive and sometimes contain characters that look similar but aren't (0 vs O, 1 vs l). Also confirm you're selecting "Xtream Codes" as the login type in the app, not M3U playlist.

Problem: channels load but keep buffering

Run a speed test. If your measured speed is above the minimum for your target quality, try: (1) switching from Wi-Fi to Ethernet, (2) closing other bandwidth-heavy applications, (3) restarting your router, (4) switching to the lower quality stream in the app (many channels have HD and SD variants). If buffering persists, contact support — we may be able to move you to a different stream server.

Problem: EPG shows "no information" for channels

EPG data loads after the channel list and can take 2–5 minutes to populate on first use. If it's empty after 5 minutes, check that EPG loading is enabled in your app's settings. In TiviMate: Settings → EPG → Force refresh.

Problem: some channels show a black screen

Some channels are geo-restricted to specific regions at the broadcaster level — this is outside StreamLux's control. Try switching to a different stream source for the same channel (most apps let you select an alternative stream). If a channel you specifically need is unavailable, contact support before purchase and we'll confirm availability for your region.

Frequently asked questions about buying IPTV

What is IPTV and how does buying one work?

IPTV delivers live TV and on-demand content over the internet. When you buy, you receive Xtream Codes credentials (username, password, server URL) by email. Enter these into a compatible app — TiviMate, IPTV Smarters Pro, Smart IPTV — and you have access to the full channel library immediately.

Is it legal to buy an IPTV subscription in Europe?

The subscription purchase itself is legal throughout the EU and UK. Legality of the streamed content depends on the provider's licensing position. StreamLux publishes its legal compliance position at streamlux.online/legal-compliance.html. For specific questions email support@streamlux.online.

How fast does activation happen after I pay?

Typically within 5 minutes. Stripe confirms payment and the system automatically sends your Xtream Codes credentials to your email. There is no manual approval step. You should have your credentials within 30 minutes maximum — contact support immediately if you don't.

What internet speed do I need?

10–15 Mbps for HD/FHD channels; 25 Mbps or more for 4K. Crucially, the connection must be stable — consistent 12 Mbps beats an average of 50 Mbps that regularly dips. A wired Ethernet connection is always better than Wi-Fi for 4K streams.

Can I use my subscription on multiple devices?

You can install the app on as many devices as you want. The 6-month and 12-month plans allow 2 simultaneous streams; the 1-month and 3-month plans allow 1. So a household can watch on two TVs at the same time with the longer plans.

Do I need to sign a contract?

No. StreamLux plans are one-off purchases with no auto-renewal and no contract. When your plan expires, access stops and you are not charged again. You can renew if you choose to — no obligation.

Does StreamLux offer a free trial?

No free trial. The 1-month plan at €12.99 is the lowest-risk way to test — no long-term commitment, full access to every feature and channel from day one. The majority of first-month subscribers upgrade to the 6- or 12-month plan when they renew.

What is the best IPTV app to use?

TiviMate is the best IPTV app for Android TV and Fire Stick — exceptional EPG, multi-stream support, and a clean interface. IPTV Smarters Pro is the best cross-platform choice. Smart IPTV works best on Samsung and LG TVs. iPlayTV is the top option for Apple TV and iPhone.

Can I use IPTV while travelling?

Yes — any internet connection works. Hotel Wi-Fi, mobile hotspot, and home broadband abroad all work provided you have the minimum speed for your chosen quality level. Some hotel networks block streaming ports; in that case a VPN resolves the issue.

Is my payment secure?

Yes. Checkout is handled entirely by Stripe (PCI-DSS Level 1 — the highest payment security standard). Your card number never reaches StreamLux's systems. Stripe encrypts all card data and processes it on their own infrastructure.

Do I need technical knowledge to set up IPTV?

No. Setup on every device takes 3–5 minutes with our step-by-step guide with screenshots. If you get stuck at any point, WhatsApp support responds within minutes and can walk you through the process in real time. Our full setup guide is at streamlux.online/setup-guide.html.

Which sports can I watch on StreamLux?

Football: Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1, Eredivisie, Champions League, Europa League, Conference League, World Cup. Other sports: Formula 1, MotoGP, NBA, NFL, UFC, boxing, Wimbledon and Roland Garros tennis, The Ashes, Six Nations rugby. Channel availability varies by region — contact support before purchasing if a specific competition is critical to your decision.
